The inspiration for this project came from scientific research on exoplanets, showing that undersea plankton is astronomer’s best guess for life on other worlds. This series attempts to describe these creatures based on what we know of plankton on earth and their environments. On earth Plankton are the base of all marine food webs and produce half the earth’s oxygen, yet they are rarely depicted in art. Drawing attention to ecological concerns and scientific research is very important to me and this series would spread awareness on this species, its importance, and its possibilities.

This series is inspired by the fractal patterns linking aspects of our own bodies to massive elements of our universe, showing that everything in existence is just one entity reflecting itself indefinitely. I aim to depict a biological representation of the hermetic principle as above, so below thus connecting science to monist philosophy through art.
